Company unveils unique full-time video contribution service for EBU, along with flurry of long-term distribution agreements at NAB exhibition in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, April 18, 2005 – New Skies Satellites B.V., the global satellite communications company, today announced a unique arrangement with the European Broadcasting Union to accommodate the transmission of live coverage from news and sports events originating in, or broadcast to, North America, Latin America and Europe via New Skies’ Washington D.C. Mediaport and the NSS-806 satellite.

New Skies also announced that it has closed recent agreements for the addition of several new channels to the company’s NSS-806 Latin American video neighborhood, one of the region’s leading platforms for video distribution with more than 120 video channels reaching a community of over 3,500 cable headends. Specifically, Brazil’s Elo Comunicações and Rede União, Honduras’ Compania Broadcasting Centroamericana, and Impsat Venezuela have added a total of seven new channels to the neighborhood, further strengthening New Skies’ penetration into the Brazilian, Central American and Andean markets.

Dolores Martos, New Skies’ vice president of Latin American sales, said: "These prominent broadcasters, and now valued New Skies customers, are all key players in their respective markets. Their addition to the NSS-806 video neighborhood is testament to the satellite’s role as one of Latin America’s most attractive platforms for video distribution and confirms that its reach is solidly expanding."

The multi-year agreement with the EBU, a group of 119 broadcasters from 79 countries, incorporates a fixed amount of capacity on NSS-806 and teleport services from New Skies’ Washington D.C. Mediaport, which has been interconnected as a node on the EBU’s transatlantic Eurovision Fibre Network (FiNE).

The service has been designed to allow for flexible expansion of their capacity during key sporting and special events from throughout the United States, Latin America and Europe, guaranteeing that the EBU can support the contribution requirements of its member stations during periods of high demand. Under the terms of the agreement, the EBU has moved their traffic onto NSS-806 immediately, and has already used the satellite for several events taking place throughout Europe, including coverage from Vatican City, the British Royal Wedding and Formula One racing.

Samantha McCloskey, New Skies’ vice president of special events and occasional-use services, said: "Over the past several years, New Skies has worked diligently to support the ever-expanding network services of the EBU, one of the premier organizations within the world’s broadcasting community.

"The EBU requires flexible collaboration on occasional-use services for the most prominent events from around the globe as well as reliable support of their full-time contribution requirements. Its responsibilities to member broadcasters demand that these requirements are met in a highly professional and responsive manner, and this latest agreement is a real vote of confidence in New Skies’ ability to consistently deliver services that meet the EBU’s high standards."

Other events for which the EBU plans to use the service include the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the tournament’s qualification games; the Formula One racing season taking place throughout Latin America; World Championship swimming from Montreal, Canada; the various football tournaments throughout Latin America; and World Cup competition skiing races, among others.

The EBU also uses New Skies’ NSS-7 satellite extensively for full-time and occasional-use services between the United States, Latin America and Europe.
