New Skies Satellites N.V. announced today that it has been authorized by the Brazilian regulatory authority ANATEL to provide satellite services in Brazil from its two major Atlantic Ocean satellites, NSS 806 and NSS 803.
Under the terms of the authorization, capacity on these satellites used to serve Brazil will be offered through New Skies Satellites Ltda, the wholly-owned subsidiary of New Skies, based in Sao Paolo.
NSS 806 at 40.5 Degrees West (319.5 Degrees East) provides C-Band and Ku-Band coverage of the Americas and Europe, and is the principal neighbourhood for Spanish language cable television channels for South America. Broadcasters can take advantage of a single high-powered beam providing simultaneous coverage of the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking regions of both continents.
NSS 803 at 21.5 Degrees West (338.5 Degrees East) is New Skies' principal connectivity satellite for the Atlantic Ocean region, covering the Americas, Europe and the whole of the African continent. In use by broadcasters, PTTs and Internet service providers, this satellite is fast becoming a prime location for intercontinental Internet traffic.
Bob Ross, Chief Executive Officer of New Skies Satellites N.V. said today, 'We are very happy to have received this authorization from ANATEL, and have been particularly impressed by the speedy and helpful way ANATEL has handled our application. Brazil is a vibrant and growing market for satellite services and this authorization ensures that New Skies will continue to be able to take advantage of the growing demand for satellite services to, from and within Brazil.'
The authorization is for fifteen years, and covers the C-Band and Ku-Band frequency ranges used to serve Brazil of the two satellites.
