The Hague, The Netherlands, October 25, 2001 – New Skies Satellites N.V. (AEX, NYSE: NSK), the global satellite communications company, announced today that it has been contracted by National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) to launch their Spanish and Portuguese programming on New Skies’ NSS 806 satellite. The new capacity will enable NGCI to reach an audience of 2,800 cable TV operators throughout Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula.
“The demand for NGCI’s programming is growing exponentially, so we chose NSS 806 because of its reach, great performance and existing service of more than 150 video programs serving Portuguese and Spanish cable stations in Latin America and Europe. It is clear to us that NSS 806 was an excellent choice in helping NGCI broadcast point to multi-point satellite programming to our expansive Latin audience right away,” said Orlando Vallone, NGC managing director in Brazil.
“We are delighted to offer dependable and cost-effective solutions to help NGCI meet the demand of its growing Latin audience,” said Dolores Martos, vice president of Latin American Sales for New Skies Satellites. “Based on the increasing demand for entertainment and the continuing trend towards deregulation throughout Latin America, we believe that there will be even greater opportunities for New Skies’ NSS 806 with NGCI and other key players throughout the continent.”
With a community of 2,800 antennas in cable heads, NSS 806 is strategically positioned to meet the programming needs of broadcasters and programmers anywhere in the Americas.
