Star One now using full 122 MHz of New Skies Ku-band satellite capacity for consumer Internet services in Brazil
19 December 2001
The Hague, The Netherlands, December 19, 2001: New Skies Satellites (AEX, NYSE:NSK), the global satellite communications company, has announced that it is now providing 122 MHz of Ku-band satellite capacity to Star One, one of the largest companies focusing on satellite solutions in Latin America, to support its entry into Brazilian consumer Internet services.

Star One, a subsidiary of Embratel and owner and operator of five C-band satellites, signed for New Skies’ Ku-band capacity on the NSS-806 satellite in May, 2001. The contract called for a ramp-up to the full 122 MHz within six months. This additional capacity is supporting the increased power requirements of small sub-meter antennas used in Star One’s new consumer satellite Internet services.

“The coverage provided by the NSS-806 satellite is a perfect fit for the services we will provide in the immediate future,” said Lincoln Oliveira, Star One’s director for Operations and Engineering. ”So far, the reception of satellite signals in each of the areas we intend to serve is excellent.”

“We are very pleased to be providing the satellite capacity for Star One’s consumer Internet services in Brazil and to be working with such an innovative and successful company as Star One,” said Dolores Martos, New Skies’ vice president of sales for Latin America.
