BEIJING, December 3, 2002 – New Skies Satellites N.V. (AEX, NYSE: NSK), the global satellite communications company, today announced that it has opened an office in Beijing and made senior sales appointments in Beijing and Hong Kong as part of its expansion strategy for China.
New Skies officially opened its first China office in Beijing today and announced the appointment of Yang,Yingmei as chief representative and sales director for Greater China. May joins New Skies from Cisco Systems where she was a senior project manager for the China Unicom Operations. May has more than 12 years of satellite experience, having worked for both Hughes Network Systems and ChinaSat. During her time at ChinaSat, May worked on the Spacenet 1/ChinaSat 5 project and the Intelsat 805 project. She has a strong background in VSAT systems having worked on projects throughout China. At Cisco, May's focus was on large Voice over IP projects.
New Skies also announced the appointment of Maurice Liu, who will head up New Skies’ new office in Hong Kong as senior sales director for the Asia Pacific region. Maurice joins New Skies from PanAmSat, where he was a senior sales director for the Greater China and Southeast Asia territories.

New Skies’ newest satellite serving the China market, NSS-6, is scheduled for launch in mid-December and will be situated at 95 degrees east longitude. This high-power Ku-band satellite has been designed to deliver high-speed telecommunications and Internet services as well as broadband multimedia applications and digital video transmissions throughout Asia. NSS-6 also features Ka-band uplink beams focused on Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing/Tianjin, Wuhan, Tokyo and Seoul, among other Asian cities. The Ka-band payload offers higher power and higher throughput using smaller, more efficient transmission systems. With state-of-the-art Ka-band and Ku-band uplinks and high-power Ku-band downlinks, NSS-6 offers an ideal combination of performance and coverage for intra- and inter-regional applications.
