MANASSAS, Virginia, March 1, 2004 – New Skies Satellites N.V. (AEX, NYSE: NSK), the global satellite communications company, today launched a new software tool that will provide New Skies’ IPsys customers unrivalled flexibility and control in managing their IP networks.
Branded IPsys NetBuilder, the software allows customers to autonomously manage their own DVB services in real-time, adding or removing sites and changing bandwidth allocations. Customers can even set up sub-accounts to give their end customers similar managed platform capabilities.
“Our IPsys NetBuilder software tool was developed at the initiative of our own engineering staff in a collaborative effort with our customers,” said Chris Schram, vice president of Network Engineering and Operations. “After careful consideration of our customers' commercial requirements and business needs, our engineers developed a tool that gives the customer unprecedented control over their services.
“IPsys NetBuilder will bring operational efficiencies by saving our customers time and effort. Through an easy-to-use interface they can optimize their bandwidth investments and quickly assign, upgrade and modify services for their customers.”
IPsys, New Skies’ Internet backbone connectivity service, directly connects customers’ remote Points of Presence (PoPs) to the global Internet backbone via a single satellite hop. IPsys connections thus bypass all shared ground networks and associated congestion points--as well as any terrestrial connectivity gaps--to seamlessly deliver rich Internet content to even the most remote locations at high speeds.
New Skies operates a total of 18 platforms for IPsys services via five satellites and six separate teleport facilities on four continents. In total, these platforms provide over 1 Gbps of contracted capacity to more than 100 customers throughout the world making New Skies the world’s leading provider of satellite-delivered IP traffic.
