One of the world’s largest business satellite broadcasting networks expands services with New Skies for content distribution across Latin America
THE HAGUE, Netherlands, March 31, 2004 – New Skies Satellites N.V. (AEX, NYSE: NSK), the global satellite communications company, today announced it has signed a new agreement with Microspace Communications to broadcast video, audio and data content throughout Latin America over the NSS-806 satellite.
The agreement, which also includes customer equipment co-location and other value-added teleport services via New Skies’ Washington D.C. mediaport, establishes New Skies as a key provider of Microspace’s international satellite transmissions services.
U.S.-based Microspace, operator of one of the world’s largest business satellite broadcasting networks, first selected New Skies in December 2002 to launch its services internationally over the NSS-7 satellite. That deal included satellite capacity and associated value-added services to broadcast real-time, IP-based data such as financial information to locations throughout Europe and the Middle East.
Stephen Wilson, New Skies’ vice president of sales for North America, said: “Microspace, as an industry leader and one of the most respected companies in the business, has a responsibility to deliver timely and critical information to hundreds of thousands of customer locations every day. Their reliance on our global network as they grow internationally is a testament to the reliability of our fleet, our excellent international coverages and our flexibility in tailoring our services to match their requirements.”
Joe Amor, Microspace’s vice president and general manager, adds, “New Skies was extremely flexible in custom-designing a distribution network to satisfy multiple technical and commercial requirements. In addition to offering excellent satellite resources and technical expertise, they have shown an unwavering commitment to our success.”
