Telecommunications carriers worldwide can take advantage of SES NEW SKIES satellite capacity to augment and extend their communications networks for the delivery of voice and data transmissions.
Latin America is another region where SES NEW SKIES satellites are at work in providing telecommunications services to remote locations. The Dominican Republic's CODETEL, a Verizon company, was able to deploy a rural telecommunications network to link hundreds of rural and semi-urban towns and villages based on the technical specifications of SES NEW SKIES' NSS-7 satellite. SES NEW SKIES is currently working with telecommunications companies throughout Latin America in similar bids to link communities that previously have had limited access to telephony and data services.
SES NEW SKIES satellite capacity also can be used as a backup in markets where fiber has been deployed extensively in the event of a natural disaster or other catastrophic event that disrupts ground-based communications.
